Custom Cakes Burwood East: Made and Collected in Our Own Suburb
Custom cakes made in Burwood East, where the studio is. Seven-day collection from 7am to 10pm, free delivery within 10 km, and what things cost.
Burwood East is where every Bakeology cake is made. Not a pickup point, not a partner kitchen — the studio itself, on Foundation Boulevard, where the sponges are baked and the buttercream is combed by hand. If you live here, you are closer to your cake than anyone else in Melbourne.
That proximity changes a few practical things, and this page is about those things: when you can collect, what it costs, how much notice we need, and what we can and cannot make.
Collecting from the studio
Studio collection is open seven days, 7am to 10pm. That range is deliberate. Cakes are wanted at odd hours — a 7am pickup before a christening, a 9.30pm collection the night before a party because the day itself is already full. Both are normal here.
We send the exact address to you once your order is confirmed. Collection is always free.
If you would rather not drive, Burwood East sits inside our free delivery radius, so delivery within 10 km of the studio costs nothing on orders over $90. Neighbouring suburbs are covered the same way — there are separate notes for Box Hill, Glen Waverley, Doncaster and Ringwood, and a fuller account of delivery across the eastern suburbs.
How much notice we need
The minimum is two days. For a weekend cake, order by Thursday 10pm.
Those are the floors, not the ideal. A fully custom design — a sculpted figure, a particular palette, a cake built around an invitation — wants two to four weeks. Wedding cakes are usually booked twelve to eighteen months ahead, though we have made beautiful ones on far less.
Being local does not shorten the minimum. A cake needs the time it needs; living five minutes away only means less of that time is spent in a car.
What things cost
The cakes already designed and photographed in the shop start at $165 and run to $365, and what you see is what you pay. Custom work is quoted from $220 for a 6-inch, which is the size most people land on.
- 5-inch — from $165, serves 10–15
- 6-inch — from $220, serves 15–25. The most popular size by a wide margin
- 7-inch — from $260
- 8-inch — from $350, or from $395 for the tall version
- Two tier — from $480
- Three tier — from $800
- Wedding cakes — from $450

Flavours and fillings
Three sponges: classic vanilla, classic chocolate, and chocolate coffee. Vanilla and chocolate fillings are included. Raspberry compote, fresh strawberry, salted caramel, chocolate ganache, cookies and cream and Biscoff are premium fillings, adding $15 to $30. The full list lives here.
One honest limitation, said plainly because finding out late is worse: we do not make eggless, gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan cakes. Nuts are not a listed ingredient in anything we make, but the kitchen cannot guarantee against traces.
What Burwood East tends to order
Birthdays, mostly, and they split three ways.
The vintage edit goes to the adult birthdays — piped shells, a ribbon of script across the front, colours pulled back rather than pushed forward. penny and betty’s biscuit tin at $200 are where most people start; colette at $235 if the occasion deserves more. There is a longer piece on vintage cakes in Melbourne if you want to see the whole range.
The junior edit takes the children's parties. blue, the dinosaur, at $285. arlo's at $360 for the ones going all out. Kids' birthday cakes covers the twenty of them properly.
The floral edit is the one people choose when they are not sure what the person wants but know she will like flowers. etta at $165 and dahlia at $170 are the gentlest way in; evelyn and vera, at $190, carry a little more bloom.
Weddings are their own conversation — start here.
Ordering
If one of the shop cakes is right as it is, order it directly and choose collection at checkout. If you want something changed, or something that does not exist yet, send us an enquiry with the date, a rough number of guests, and any picture that is close to what you are imagining. A photograph of something you like tells us more than a paragraph describing it.
We will come back with a quote and a sketch of what is possible for the date.
